Agave Victoriae-Reginae.
Agave Victoriae-Reginae

Description.

Solitary, spread up to 30cm. Leaves dark green, rigid, 15cm long and 5 cm wide, concave on upper side. Lower side convex keeled towards the tip. White margins and keel. Terminal spine short 2-3 mm.

The Fernandi regis form from Saltillo has fewer leaves than other forms and of a grey green rather than green colour. Broad white leaf markings are prominent and the single terminal spine is replaced by three short black spines. The name fernandi regis is in itself botanically invalid. The Viridis form from Saltillo lacks the white leaf markings of other forms. In the literature it is considered as a hybrid between agave victoriae reginae and agave lechuguilla but as only the fernandi regis form grows in this area it is likely that this plant represents a hybrid between lechuguilla and the fernandi regis form of victoriae reginae.
