Agave Salmiana Ferox.
Agave Ferox
guadalajarana

Description.

Solitary or clumping succulent rosette reaching up to 1.5m at maturity. Easily recognised by its shiny green, outcurving leaves, and strongly teated margins heavily armed with significant teeth and terminal spine.

Its apparent native origin is in the virtually frostless climates of Oaxaca and may go some way to explain its sensitivity to frosts below -4C.

This plant was one that I took pity on when I spotted it in a Portuguese garden center back in 2002. It was totally pot bound and depauperate. Heres a picture of it a year later in 2003 where it has just opened up a new leaf. It hard to believe that it's the same plant as the one pictured above 6 years on. It frequently produces offsets.
