Description.

The rosettes of agave pygmae (agave seemanniana subs. pygmaea (Gentry) B.Ullrich) are small, offsetting and only grow to only 30 cm diameter with glaucous or gray-green leaves that are usually quite flat and narrowed towards the base.

Agave pygmaea really belongs under the name of agave seemanniana which is a variable species that has been renamed a few times, one of which Gentry struggled to spell correctly. Gentry did however recognise that it may be a depauperate form of seemanniana because of its locality on dry limestone slopes. Agave pygmaea is known only from the type locality: about 20 miles north of the Guatemalan border.

Agave pygmaea is well suited to pot culture due to it's small size.

The specimen above was grown from seed and has produced one offset.
