Description.

Small sparingly and closely suckering compact plant of pale yellow-green to glaucous green rosettes suited to pot culture.

leaves 18-30 x 5-7 cm, lanceolate, mostly glaucous green, rigid, thick at base, concave above, convex below, acuminate, the margin nearly straight to undulate with teeth bases, slightly narrowed above base, the cuticle smooth; spine 2.5-5 cm long, dark reddish brown to light gray, sturdy, usually straight, narrowly to openly grooved above; teeth regular, the larger along the mid-blade commonly 4-8 mm long, mostly rather straight or merely curved, regularly spaced 1.5-2.5 cm apart, light gray, 8-12 per side.

It is a calciphile of the highland grama grasslands found in then Guadalupe Mountains of southeastern New Mexico through the western Big Bend of Texas southward in Chihuahua to the latitude of Sueco and San Buenaventura.

Thought to be a introgression between neomexicana and lechuguilla.
